If you own a Verizon phone and want to lock it so that you can’t unlock it unless you pay Verizon $25, you might be thinking about making a switch.

They lock phones to prevent theft and to help with fraud, and to help with prevention, they lock all recently purchased phones for 60 days.
It will take 60 days before your phone gets unlocked if you haven’t reported it as lost or stolen or if your billing information hasn’t been flagged for suspicious activity.
How Can I Tell If My Verizon Phone is Unlocked?
Go into the Settings
Scroll down to the bottom and choose About
Scroll down again and look for the Network Version
If you see your Device unlocked, then you are good to go!
If it’s grayed out, you will need to wait for an Official Unlock Method. This is a tedious way to unlock your phone, but it can be done to bypass the greyed out area. If you have Windows, use this method instead.

How Do You Unlock a Locked Verizon Phone?
In short, you cannot unlock your Verizon locked phone yourself.

Since this process won’t happen until the 90-day period has passed, that also means that it won’t happen, no matter which way you buy a device.
But if you’re a member of the military and are going to be deployed to a location where Verizon doesn’t have coverage, you can contact Verizon and get an early unlock.
How Do I Check If My Verizon Phone is Unlocked by IMEI?
Â First, you need to find your IMEI number. The IMEI number will appear in the statusbar when you use the “Settings” button on your phone.
To see the IMEI code, head to Settings > General > About. There’s a box located in the upper-left corner of the About window that says “Device Information”, tap on it and you’ll see the 15-digit number.
However, on Android it’s easy to find the IMEI because you can open up your “Settings” and find that information, which is always 11 characters long.
If you use a website such as OfficialSimUnlock, enter your unlock code and see whether the phone is unlocked or not.

It is important to note that when you are trying to verify the IMEI number of the phone is unlocked, it’s not a reliable source. That’s because the IMEI number on the phone itself is not an accurate representation of the phone’s software, and could be easily changed in order to make it appear to be unlocked.
Does Verizon Lock Unpaid Phones?
Verizon does lock your phone using the IMEI number, which means you cannot use your phone to make calls, send texts, or use the internet.
However, if you do want to make sure you don’t get blocked by carriers that don’t support the iPhone, you can just buy a different handset and not use your old one.
