Sephora has flexible return policies that customers can take advantage of at Sephora locations across the country. Sephora allows customers to return any product for a refund or exchange within 30 days of purchase.
As the owner of an old-school brand, I wanted to find out more about their return policy, as well as what customers needed to do to return a product.
What Is Sephora’s Return Policy Without a Box?
As long as your product is returned in brand-new condition and you have not used all of it, you can request a refund. We’ll credit your payment method for the amount you paid, or offer you an online or in-store credit for any open items.
For more information on how to return your purchase with a Sephora box on your own, if you can return unused items for a refund, read on for more details!
Can I Return an Item to Sephora Without the Box?
You can return an item to Sephora without a box in case you misplaced or damaged the original packaging. If you have a receipt that can be sent with the box, we will provide you with a return label. Please note that receipt must be in order to receive the label.
If the customer requests an exchange, we will ask them to pay for the difference between the price of the new product and the price paid for the returned item.
Sephora’s return policy applies to both items returned with the original box and packaging and items returned without the original box or packaging.
You must contact Sephora within 5 days of receipt of your order. This 5-day period is part of our guarantee against damage or loss during shipping.
Can You Return Used Items to Sephora Without the Box?
If you return an item without the original packaging, you will be responsible for the shipping and handling fees.
If a customer returns an item bought within 30 days of purchase, they will receive a full store credit. If the item was bought more than 30 days ago, they will receive a full refund.
However, the Sephora retail stores reserve the right to inspect whether or not the items are used before processing the return of the items with no original packaging.
(A note of caution is in place because, as previously mentioned, a significant portion of the products returned may be out-of-date, expired, underutilized, or faulty. To be extra cautious, you should perform a product test before you throw out a product.)
How to Return Items
For international orders, please follow the steps below.
How Can You Return an Item to Sephora Without a Box?
When it comes to returning items without a box, a close return process is similar to the return process of items with their original packaging.
If you want to return the item, you have to present it at a store location.
But, the online retailer doesn’t refund the original shipping charges during the original purchase unless you return the product to them for Sephora’s mistake.
You can always give yourself another free gift, in case you did not like the first. You can send the product back, or just put it at the end of your box.
However, for returns of items purchased online, you can simply go to your order page and click “Return” to complete the process.
How Many Returns Without a Box Are Allowed at Sephora?
Sephora allows its customers to return beauty products without a box, but only if they are in excellent condition. The company will deny any request to return items that are damaged or do not have all their original contents.
According to several online reviews of Sephora, the company is considering blacklisting customers who have made too many returns.
Although the article doesn’t explicitly say so, I assume that they’re referring to the Sephora Blacklist.
The company uses a system called ‘The Retail Equation’ to monitor and score its customers’ shopping behavior.
We believe that The Retail Equation (TRE) can be used to develop predictive models for customer segmentation.
The model can be used to decide the loyalty program and the value/margin potential for the store.
We believe that the loyalty program is of utmost importance to the business owners because they need a mechanism to track the behavior of their customers in order to generate more revenue.
By understanding our customers better, the company could provide greater and timely support to each one of its customers.
Can You Make Returns to Sephora Without a Box and a Receipt?
After one week of the Sephora return policy, customers may return any item they want without the box and its receipt.
If you have not purchased this product, we can’t provide you anything.
For example, when a customer uses his or her Sephora online account with the username and password he or she also provided to the retailer, the retailer can then use that same information to perform what’s known as a “one-time password verification,” as described later on this page.
This is to make sure that each time a customer purchases a product, the product they purchase is not sold to another person.
If you return a product without a receipt you can have your identity verified by providing your ID or driver’s license.
You don’t need to produce the receipt within 30 days of the sale, but Sephora will issue you a credit if there is a problem with your order.

Sephora accepts returns, even for products without their original packaging. In this case, you can reuse the box or return it with the product.
If Sephora’s system fails to verify that the refund is correct, the customer may be charged a service fee.
