How do you apply for bereavement leave at CVS?
You can request bereavement leave if you have lost a family member. You should explain your situation to the manager and then submit your request for leave.
It is not uncommon to not be able submit your leave request on time. You might need to inform your manager immediately if this happens.
What Does The CVS Bereavement policy Consider for Family?
CVS Health only covers you and your immediate family. This is the same as for employees:
- Domestic partner
- Legal guardian
- Family members who live with the employee
Important to know that this policy does not cover uncles, aunts or nephews, nieces, and close friends.

CVS offers paid bereavement leaves to employees who have completed their probationary period of 90 days. CVS also offers financial assistance through emergency travel expenses and funeral expenses.
These are all possible because of the CVS Employee Relief Fund, a public charity that was established to assist CVS employees in financial hardships and unanticipated financial emergencies.
You might request a personal leave of absence (LOA) if you need to be absent for longer periods of time. Your store manager and the HR department must approve your LOA.

Is The CVS Employee Relief Fund available to me?
The Employee Relief Fund covers all CVS Health employees, including those on probation. It provides financial assistance to employees who have experienced family deaths, natural catastrophes, medical emergencies, or other unforeseeable events.
The fund reviews employee requests for assistance and can grant grants up to $3000 depending upon the severity of the emergency. To apply for assistance through the Employee Relief fund, contact the HR team.
Can CVS Deny Me Bereavement Policy?
The United States does not have any laws that protect employees’ rights to bereavement leaves. It is up to employers to decide whether or not to allow bereavement time to employees. Oregon is the only exception. Oregon is the only exception to this rule.
CVS’s Employee Relief Fund is separate for emergency situations. This means that your manager is unlikely to deny you bereavement leave.
What should I do during my bereavement leave?
The American Psychological Association (APA) states that different people react to grief in different ways. These coping strategies are available to you:
- Discussing your loved ones with colleagues and friends
- Accepting your emotions
- It is important to eat a healthy diet and get enough sleep.
- Get in touch with others who are experiencing a similar loss
- Donating money to charity or planting a tree is a way to honor the lives of those you love.
According to the APA, there is no set time for grieving. It’s best to consult a psychologist to help you through this difficult period. A support group is a great option if you don’t have a good support system.

Employees who have lost a loved one should take bereavement time. Employees have the right to be alone while they grieve, without having to meet deadlines. Employees who are grieving need to be able to take time off from work to arrange for funeral arrangements.
Staff members can take bereavement leave to:
- They grieve both mentally and physically
- For information regarding the death of a loved one, contact family and friends
- Final funeral arrangements can be made for your loved one by a funeral home or cremation society.
- Travel arrangements can be made for funeral or memorial services, receptions.
- Complete financial and legal documentation regarding the will of the deceased
- Manage the estate of the deceased, among other properties
- Get in touch with the life insurance companies for your loved one
- Spend time with the relative of the deceased

CVS Health has a generous policy for bereavement that covers all employees.
The policy allows for a three-day standard leave, depending on employee status. Your manager may be able to arrange for more time if you require it.
