What Are Usps Shipping Zones? (how It Works, Meanings + More)

The United States Postal Service is one of the things that makes this country great. You can go to the post office, and there will be the mail delivered to your house, to your business, to your work.

It does not matter which of the two post offices are closer to you, or if you live in a rural area. They both work the same and charge similar rates to people living outside their zone.

You’ll notice that USPS shipping zones are the different colors around the world.

What Are USPS Shipping Zones In 2022?

The United States Postal Service’s shipping zone system is a high-individualized method of determining the speed of shipping and the price of postage for residences in an area. Depending on the postal service zip code, the zones range from 1 to 9, with 1 being the closest and 9 the furthest possible destination.

First, to help you understand the USPS zones and how they work, I have created a great USPS Zone tutorial! If you haven’t read my first zone tutorial, I would start there.

How Do USPS Zones Work?

Maps of the United States’ postal zones will look totally different if you and your friend in a different city look at a map.

The reason these regions are designated as zones is because they’re designed to help USPS figure out the most cost-effective way to deliver a package.

Yes, yes, yes it is possible when there are zones that are shared in a single metro area, the zones can be different depending on the ZIP code of the person using the app.

For a more in depth look at what they mean see the link in my first comment.

The general rule is that shipping will be more expensive the further away you want to ship your stuff.

So you can see from this that shipping to California would be cheaper for someone in New Mexico than for someone in Georgia.

Once you know your zone and the zone in which your mailpiece’s destination resides, you can check the USPS.com price page to find out how much it will cost to mail that mailpiece.

When shipping, it is a good idea to use an envelope that is suitable for the type of mail (First-Class / Media / etc.) being sent. If you are shipping large quantities of items, consider including a box to be able to track them through the postal system. It makes it easier if there’s a tracking number associated with the shipment.

First-Class Package Service is only being used for packages that weigh 13 ounces or less.

Zoned service means that a package is only sent to your address in certain areas.

The services that you see in the table above are those that are available for shipment to the United States.

I always like to look at the Priority Mail price breakdown. I really love to see the different prices for different boxes. I think it gives an overall idea over what you’ll be paying per box.

So for this package, you’re looking at $4.99/item here and the Priority Mail label is $2.49/box, so you’re paying almost $7 more than the cost of the Priority Mail itself.

A one pound box will be shipped at local rates, and within Zone 1 and 2, for the starting rate of $7.95.

Someone who lives in Pittsburgh, zip code 15213 (the majority of which is the University of Pittsburgh’s campus in Oakland) would get their healthcare through University of Pittsburgh Health Services.

They could send a 1-lb. parcel within the 15213 zip code, as well as to part of West Virginia, most of Western PA, and well into Ohio. It’s $7.95!

However, most of that is just the area from LA to Las Vegas, and the fastest speed in this area is Priority.

Recipients anywhere outside Australia would receive the parcel within two days.

It’s not right that someone who is working hard to provide for their family has to wait a day or more for a card that is a few hundred dollars that can provide their family with a basic amount of food, water, and a basic shelter.

The Zone Map from PirateShip.com, will allow you to determine what zones your package travels in and helps you determine where you need to pick up your package and what service you need.

If you live in the Seattle/Puget Sound area of Washington and have an Amazon
account, you can use the USPS web site:
http://domestic.usps.com/pdz/. This will allow you to determine if an
item that you are pre-registering for is correct, and will allow you to
use the service on weekends and holidays.

How Are USPS Shipping Zones Calculated?

I don’t know what the individual zip codes are, but I’m assuming they don’t go much beyond that “radius” distance (as a rough estimate).

There are a few things to note. First, these zones aren’t perfect circles because of the distance rules. Second, notice that some regions have very wide borders.

The “zone” concept is not always very useful. It depends on your network, and may require a different approach.

I can see some counties that are very far from each other that are in the same zone. I’m not sure if that’s the fault of the ship or simply that the zone system has no boundaries.

This was done mostly to reduce the number of jobs. The majority of their workers were actually contract workers, and the company moved the majority of their operations to other countries.

The vast majority of the residents would fall into the Zone 6 or less range.

How Do USPS Zones Affect Your Shipping Costs?

A postage stamp is a tiny little piece of paper like a postage meter stamp that is affixed to the top of the mail piece. USPS charges more for some services depending on how quickly a mailpiece travels.

Zoned service means that a package is only sent to your address in certain areas.

The services that you see in the table above are those that are available for shipment to the United States.

It includes shipping, tracking, and other services.

For example, a mailpiece going to the U.S. may cost more if it’s going to another state like California. A mailpiece going to another country may cost more if it’s going to a country far away.

So the further the distance, the more expensive it gets to send the package.

That price includes the federal excise tax, the state tax, and the city tax, and is valid for pickup and delivery throughout the continental United States.

But an envelope is only half a pound. It can’t weigh over a half-pound. Or anything else but a pound.

When you check out the Priority Mail shipping options, you’ll see that the maximum weight here is 70 lbs. If you order two of these things and ship them together, the cost is $30 less per package. To check your weight, it’s in the small space below the shipping options.

If you want to get that package to a U.S. Territory (Zone 9), you better have $575.20 to spare!

Here are some real-life examples of the two different sentences.

Well, if you are going to charge a large amount of money, you should keep it simple that way. The more complicated it is, the more likely many of the people would figure it out or just not pay the service.

This means that the Postal Service only exists if the public buys its products and services. But it’s not just the products and services. A lot of the things they do include things that are unnecessary.

The FDA is not a “laboratory” of the United States government. It is an independent agency with its own budget, but it is not an independent branch of the government.

So the company will have to charge a lot more for shipping, and thus it will be more and more difficult for the company to remain as functional as possible for as long as possible.

How Do You Know Your USPS Postal Zone?

The USPS.com Domestic Zone Calculator will show you all the zones in your area, and it’s great if you are traveling internationally.
And if you don’t have anything specific to buy right now, there are plenty of websites and apps that will help you find the best price on anything that you are looking for.

The PirateShip.com map has a handy color coded guide that shows the topography of the various zones of each state.

It’s important to remember: The dynamic nature of zones means that zip codes with different postal codes — even those that are similar in terms of their distance from the coast — may be assigned to different zones.

What Are USPS International Zones?

If you want to send mail abroad, you would use the United States Postal Service international zones to find out how much it will cost you.

The Price Groups are a tool that USPS uses to help control and manage cost. An example would be if you had an increase in your shipping costs because of an increase in your package volumes, USPS would be able to charge you a rate that’s lower than normal. This would essentially mean that your package cost should be lower than usual.

The difference between the price for Canada and the U.S. can vary depending on whether you are shipping via air or ground.

If you are mailing Priority Express International, you would put the priority on the package and the Global Express Guaranteed on the insurance. Both would ship the same day, but one would cost more and take 1 day longer than the other.

Priority flat-rate international is the first level and should be the cheapest of the three levels.

If you buy a product through us, you can rest assured that we will ensure that the delivery is as fast as possible.

The package is “ready to ship.” The package will be processed as per the USPS guidelines and sent to the carrier as quickly as possible.

If you wanted to use the Global Service and ship a 5-lb. package to Croatia, that would run you $223.40.

If I order priority express for a package I am paying for, and it arrives damaged, I am out the time in shipping and the money to repair the package.

with Priority Flat-Rate International, Croatia is in Group 8. The medium Flat-Rate box is for items 4.1lb to 20 pounds. It is a great box for your large, bulky or awkward items. The Flat-Rate box would cost you $85.

Unlike domestic zones, USPS’s international zones are consistent no matter where you are in the world. The first digit designates the country.

If you want to learn more about shipping, there is also a great article by The USPS Blog on whether or not to use USPS shipping services.

Conclusion

While it is theoretically possible for a post office to be the most remote, the most remote post office is the one closest to the geographic center of the U.S.

Sending to more than 40 countries is free and will not be sent on a single
envelope.

This is true, but not applicable if you are sending to Canada, which is a part of the first 40.
