“You need a durable container that will keep its contents cold and prevent leaks during transport,” says Lianne Loughrey, an editor at Best Reviewed.

You’ll need to use a sturdy packaging box, such as a foam box or plastic box, to avoid moisture and air leaking out.

In the packaging container you have on hand, place the items that need to be shipped.

As for shipping, you are not required to use ice. Just place your perishable goods into a box and seal it with a heavy tape like packing tape.
You can also use a Styrofoam box, but that’s an additional cost. Also, Styrofoam is more likely to break and require a replacement or repair.

When you want to make your package nice and strong, it is always advisable to use high quality packing tape and when you are about to seal the package, be sure to leave some space for the condensation and the carbon dioxide gas to escape.

The packaging material must be clearly marked on the outside of the box with the name and address of the sender using ink. The labeling must be neatly attached and placed on every package.

You will need a DOT class 9 label on your container that is big enough to cover the entire package.  Don’t forget to put the warning label on the outside so that the postal workers can see it as they make their way through the sorting area.

When dry ice is packed correctly, it’s generally not an issue for shipping a package. However, USPS can reject packages if they see something that indicates the dry ice was not correctly packaged.
