Humans can be tricked into doing incredible things with digital deception; people often don’t think before they click.
And, of course, that being said, that’s a legitimate text so it’s not as if we can use it to prevent frauds.
But the good news is that there are many other approaches that we can take to help you.
So let’s take a look at a few of the things
we can do to help detect fraudulent texts.
The first thing to look for is a text that is too vague to make sense.
Let me give you an example.
Text messages are a very easy way to communicate with your customers. All they need to do is text “USPS” to 8778. Also, they may also be interested in receiving text messages so make sure you add that to your signup form as well.
Does USPS Send Text Messages In 2022?
Customers may receive text messages from the USPS in the following situations:
– A package has been delivered
– Tracking is available
– A notice of attempted delivery is received

A couple of weeks ago, I got a text message from a phone number claiming to be from the United States Postal Service but it didn’t feel like any text message I’d ever gotten from this number before and there was no mention of any letters or packages on the text at all.
Does USPS Send Text Messages About Delivery Changes?
PostOffice has a free way to update your delivery status and if you’ve signed up for their Text-To-Delivery service. It’s not available on all carriers.
This means that you should delete these messages from your mobile device.
I am a representative of the United States Postal Service. I have discovered a problem with your address on file with USPS.
“This is a parcel that has been delivered today. Please confirm.”
This method is a lot faster because it doesn’t need to search for any other email related to the shipment.
You will need to put a little logic in this rule depending in the shipment date. If it’s a shipment with a date, like I got one, go to the “Shipment Status” rule and add a condition and set the filter.

It is common for scammers to try and trick you out of your financial information.
If you’re using a Macbook, make sure you are logged into the browser with your phone or you may end up downloading malware onto your computer.
If you’re a hacker, this will give you the ability to do a lot of nasty things, like changing someone else’s account information.
Because of this, it is a good idea to be on the lookout for suspicious text messages, and that means paying more attention to messages from friends or family.
Is A Text From USPS A Scam?
Text messaging services can be dangerous for a number of reasons, like a) the fact that a company can access your phone number and b) when receiving SMS messages you might not trust.
It is a good idea to turn off the text notifications or clear your inbox so that you don’t miss any deliveries.
If you are not sure if you are subscribed to the shipping text message service, go back to the shipping page, scroll down and check the box.
If you want to see the notifications you’re signed up for, use the chevron to the right of the section. You’ll see something similar to the screenshot below – click on the checkbox to the right of ‘Notify Me’ to enable notifications.
How Do You Know If A Text Isn’t From USPS?
One thing scammers do to trick people into giving up personal information is use weird spellings.

If you get this spam, you have been “caught off guard”. It is often delivered in your inbox or email while you are checking your email, or while you are on a website, or while you are shopping online.
The US postal service cannot be held responsible for grammatical and spelling violations.
It has got to look legitimate. You are going to give your order number to a person or retailer, and the scammers can easily copy that number from an actual order receipt and make it look like it is coming from that order.
If you are the recipient of a parcel with a USPS tracking number, then you should be able to determine whether the package you received is the same package that was delivered to you.
The formatting pattern is identical to the header of a typical letter.
>The header indicates the text’s location in the envelope, the sender name, and any other relevant information. Text written within the body of a letter has no header.
The delivery status of any shipment is displayed in a section called “Delivery Status”, this section is located beneath the “Track a shipment” section on the right side.
How Can You Check If You Are Signed Up For USPS Texts?
If you’re getting texts that feel like scams, you might want to check with your postal provider if you signed up to receive delivery updates.
It’s real simple to check if you are actually signed up for USPS texts using their site.
You can check your shipment status online, or simply enter your tracking number.
You can see that section is still empty in your dashboard. Don’t panic, you can quickly fill that section with your own text and email addresses.

If you don’t get any texts, then you didn’t sign up for text notifications. The text you received is indeed a scam.
We should always be mindful that there are scammers out there, and there is a reason why some of us have gotten scammed before. They are very clever and they are good at what they do, which is to take advantage of innocent people.
If someone sends you a message to their number but you don’t know the number, they may be using a new device. You can check to see if you sent an SMS or a phone call.
In the next section, you’ll create an account with them and enter your email address. Your email address will be the only address you’ll use to get text notifications from the USPS and be able to reply to messages. You’ll want to make note of this address, because it’s the only way you’ll get your first notification!
What Number Does USPS Text From?
If you are signed up to receive text messages from the United States Post Office, the number to text is 28777.
There are also a lot of scammers who send text messages to people with numbers in the 10s. The reason they do this is due to how they can target specific numbers without needing to send messages to everyone on a list.
If you find the notification text, you know firstly that you did sign up for notifications, and then more importantly, that the other text isn’t from USPS.
1. If a person replies to the opt in text, the text will be the new original text (so the reply will not come from the previous original text, but from the new text).
2. If a person does not reply to the initial opt in text, so it will send a new opt in text to that person.
What Do You Do If You Get USPS Smishing Text?
Rejecting a text from someone you don’t know is jarring and feels intrusive. But you can fight back in one small way.
This is a scam, so if you think you’ve received a call or email from someone claiming to be with the United States Postal Inspection Service asking for your banking/credit card information, contact your bank or credit card company to see if it has been compromised.
With the latest update, we’re adding the ability to copy and paste the message directly from the app or the website.
You should be able to give them information about your interactions with that number.
If you have been a victim of this type of fraud, there will be a lot of questions that need to be answered by our investigators. We will need to know your name, address, your employer or company name, your business phone, fax, and email address, as well as any other information you can provide.
We need to get as much information as we can in order to help you get your money returned.
The site may have been spoofed. However, I would still recommend using a different email.

Conclusion
The U.S. Postal Service does send text messages – but those text messages will never contain a link or ask for personal information.
Messages that contain links and may suggest there is an “urgent notice” or “delivery change” should be regarded as a “smishing attempt” and reported to the appropriate authorities.
