While buying light bulbs is a great recycling option, you may want to consider reusing or recycling light bulbs. There are many different reasons you may want to do this.
Does Lowe’s Recycle Light Bulbs In 2022?
Lowe’s, a retail company, announced that they will collect and recycle used CFL, fluorescent, and LED light bulbs this year as of 2022. People can drop their worn-out light bulbs into the stores to be recycled to generate energy for other light bulbs. If the light bulbs aren’t intact, they aren’t eligible for recycling.
Now that we have discussed what happens to light bulbs at Lowe’s recycling centers, and the benefits of doing it yourself, we will go on to discuss how Lowe’s recycling program works. So let’s begin with a history of the program.
Does Lowe’s Recycle CFL Light Bulbs?
While a number of states, cities, and companies offer their own recycling programs, Lowe’s has developed a solid reputation for recycling CFL bulbs.
Light bulbs are not usually recycled in the regular recycling bins, so if you take them to Lowe’s you can rest assured they will be disposed of properly.
Does Lowe’s Recycle LED Light Bulbs?
I also noticed that Lowe’s does take back some electronics, though you’ll need to call ahead to find out what types of electronics they accept.
LED light bulbs do not have to be recycled. They can be thrown away with the rest of your trash.
Does Lowe’s Recycle Incandescent Light Bulbs?
They can’t be recycled because the chemical composition of their bulb material is different to ordinary light bulbs, and glass is hazardous to recycling plants.
They can be recycled using a high-temperature melting technique, and are the most commonly used type of light bulb.
If you have glass you put into your bin that is not recyclable, ensure that you do not put incandescent light bulbs into your glass recycling bin as these contain metal and are made from a different kind of glass, which can cause damage.
Does Lowe’s Recycle Fluorescent Light Bulbs?
In addition to that, they are made of toxic materials and could be dangerous to the environment.
To ensure you have a new light bulb for when you lose one, you should dispose of the old one at Lowe’s.
Does Lowe’s Recycle Halogen Light Bulbs?
Lowes does not offer a recycling service for halogen bulbs. Halogen bulbs are not considered hazardous and are able to be disposed of as regular household trash.
There are other reasons for Halogen bulbs not being recyclable, one of which is that the packaging usually encases the bulb in a protective material which can crack.
This is very important. Do not recycle your halogen bulbs with your glass recycling because the chemicals in the bulbs may cause your glass recycling to be ruined.
How Much Does It Cost To Recycle Light Bulbs At Lowe’s?
Light bulbs need to be recycled. I cannot charge you for it and I do not collect money from other people.
Where Else Can I Recycle Light Bulbs?
Although you cannot change the bulb right away, you can dispose of it after removing it from the light fixture.
You can find out what types of light bulbs your local recycling center collects by asking your local trash management facility.
As an alternative to selling old bulbs, some bulb manufacturers offer a mail-back service, whereby you send old and used bulbs back. As an eco-friendly addition, some retailers accept bulbs for recycling.
Home Depot, Lowe’s, Ace Hardware – all have an “Recycling” symbol on the store’s location.
