Amazon returns are fraught with questions. This is understandable, as there are many rules and policies.
One of these questions concerns the serial numbers of Amazon’s returned products and the process that led to them all.
Amazon checks serial numbers on returns
Amazon will scan the serial number and barcode after you have purchased an item. This allows Amazon to verify that the item is the original item if you send it back.
Although it may seem excessive, considering how many people have gone through the hassle of purchasing a new item and returning it to get their money back, it is logical that they inspect them.
This is the short answer. If you want to know more, read the rest of this article. You might be surprised at what you discover.
Amazon tracks serial numbers of items?
Amazon doesn’t track serial numbers. At least, not all of them. After scanning the barcode, fulfillment center associates will deliver and receive products. Sellers are responsible for tracking, tracking, and any other issues related to serial numbers.
Virtual tracking is however an option.
What is Virtual Tracking?
Virtual tracking allows Amazon to place orders using identical products from different sellers. This makes it easier for them to process customer orders faster and to deliver the product from a fulfillment center closer to the person who ordered it.
Amazon says:
Virtual tracking tracks the origin of eligible products during the fulfillment process. The fulfillment center does not store identical items from different sellers.
What if someone returns an item with a different serial number?
This could be a problem for the buyer and it is recommended that you be as cooperative as possible and as honest as you can to avoid further investigation.
Because many scams work in this manner, and Amazon is well aware of it.
The seller will either reject your request for a refund or notify you that the serial number of the item purchased is different.
Amazon Denies Returns
Amazon technically must accept returns as long the product is eligible. However, Amazon may refuse to accept returns or take action if there have been too many returns.

What happens if a customer asks for too many returns?
This is an interesting question. It’s unlikely that Amazon customers will have to answer this question. However, it may be something we think of when returning an item for the third time or fourth.
Amazon had to close an account of a customer in 2018 because she received too many returns within 12 months.
