If you work for Verizon and have suddenly lost a family member in the past, you might be wondering what the Verizon bereavement policy is, and whether it applies to your current situation.
There are a handful of people out there that have had excellent service with Verizon. I’m a Verizon customer myself, and my experience is generally positive. But there is a small, annoying section of the customer base that has a completely different experience. I hear from a few people every year who aren’t getting great service from Verizon. It makes me wonder if they’re the same people being treated differently if they’re being told to bring back a specific phone or not.
What Is the Verizon Bereavement Policy In 2022?
Your bereavement time is one hour for the first hour of bereavement leave taken
at the same site where the employee would otherwise receive paid time off. This
time is in addition to any bereavement time already accrued. The bereavement
time is in addition to any time already accrued and cannot exceed a total of
40 hours in any calendar year.
Verizon supports bereavement leave without any restrictions.

Does the Verizon Bereavement Policy Require Proof of Death?
While there is no Verizon policy stating that your supervisor will request proof of the death of a family member before approving your bereavement, it may occur in some cases.
If you have a copy of an obituary, death certificate, burial permit or other documentation that confirms your loved one died, you should submit it with your request.
You will be required to demonstrate that you have successfully completed your required number of hours.
You must give this certificate to your supervisor, and they will likely want to see it at least once as well.

If the person that died is a close family member and you call Verizon and tell them the truth, you can get as many days of bereavement as you need.
Verizon is a union shop, so the employees are members of the Communications Workers of America. Thus, they have a set schedule of 3 days of vacation annually, with one of those days coming from each month. However, it is important to note that this means that the first and last days of their vacation are set, and that their first day off of vacation is also their 3rd, 9th, etc. day off of work.
