Does Verizon Work In Costa Rica? (All You Need To Know)

If you live in the United States, chances are you’ve already picked up the cell phone. You can do so by using services such as Verizon or T-Mobile. However, you should always check to see if there are other carriers and if they offer coverage in your area.

I was wondering about coverage in Costa Rica. Fortunately, I did all the research and I have some good news! You don’t have to worry at all about reception! Here’s everything I discovered about Costa Rica’s signal coverage!

Does Verizon Work In Costa Rica In 2022?

The Verizon service in Costa Rica is not as reliable as in other places in the world and depending on where you are in Costa Rica it may or not work.

The main issue with Verizon is that the service is unreliable, not too bad, but sometimes hard to get a call or a text to go through.

Do you have more questions about the coverage in Costa Rica? For example, does this cover TravelPass? Keep reading to check out the rest of my research!

Does Verizon Have Coverage In Costa Rica?

Fortunately, you can get Verizon coverage in Costa Rica, but it doesn’t cover the entire country, as you can see on the international travel coverage map.

You don’t really need a passport to travel and stay within Costa Rica.

In areas where you’re unlikely to have cell phone coverage, you’ll most likely have to use the WiFi hotspot, which requires setting up a hotspot on your computer.

And, it’s also important that you either turn on roaming or use your data in Costa Rica. But, the charges can be up to $3 per minute if you’re just using standard roaming!

So, roaming isn’t always the friendliest deal. But, to be fair, it’s good if you plan on visiting a lot of countries in the world. So, it’s important that you know what you’re getting into when you sign up.

Does Verizon TravelPass Work In Costa Rica?

There’s a way to get Verizon TravelPass working in Costa Rica, but it’ll cost you $10 per day to use it while you’re in Costa Rica.

And it only charges you for the countries you use your phone in. So when you don’t do anything with your phone, it doesn’t charge you a cent.

If you connect to a web browser or open an app, such as weather, it’ll count as use, so you have to be mindful of that if you use your phone but don’t want to pay the fees for using the cell tower.

How Do I Add Verizon TravelPass To Travel To Costa Rica?

You can add the travelpass by texting “Travel” to 4004, and you don’t have to wait for it to arrive in the mail.

If you don’t want to pay for TravelPass, you can still use it by getting a data-only SIM card when you travel.

The data-only option allows you to access the TravelPass service while you’re travelling, but won’t count towards data usage on your regular subscription.

To add TravelPass to your account, use the same option as adding a new device or account. To go online, go to my Verizon.com and choose TravelPass.

Once you finish something, TravelPass will activate and you won’t have to wait until you’re back in the US to make a purchase.

Does Verizon Have Coverage In San Jose, Costa Rica?

The Verizon coverage in San Jose, Costa Rica, is pretty good. The coverage here includes the entire city.

However, there is still some areas of San Jose that might have no service.
If you are close to those areas, you will lose the service.

If this is not the case, it is likely that you are in a building, and not on a sidewalk, and the walls of the building are providing some of the signal.

Does Verizon Work In Monteverde, Costa Rica?

Monteverde is a mountainous region that can be difficult to get to. If you travel there be careful of your Verizon signal because the mountainous regions of Costa Rica have very spotty coverage at best.

You’ll find that most of the media attention is surrounding nearby towns and villages. There are still plenty of wonderful restaurants and local attractions that remain worth exploring.

Does Verizon Work In Alajuela, Costa Rica?

Alajuela is one of the biggest cities within Costa Rica and has good cell phone service using Verizon service as they serve many parts of the country.

Now, here’s a good example of a paraphrase that is correct, though it is not grammatically complete, which is another reason why it’s called an “incomplete” paraphrase.

When you look on the international map, you can see that Verizon covers this area with good coverage, so that you don’t lose your signal anywhere within this area.

Does Verizon Work In Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica?

Puerto Viejo is a great option for an active vacation in Costa Rica. Also, the quality of reception will not be an issue for those planning a trip to this city.

Does Verizon Work In Limon, Costa Rica?

Yeah, there is good coverage in Costa Rica. I think that you can see it on the travel map for that area.

However, if you’re going to Cahuita, you may lose some cell signal since that location is on the beach, and the quality near the beaches can be less-than-stellar, but you won’t lose reception even in areas where reception is generally best.

Does Verizon Work In Heredia, Costa Rica?

Verizon was able to cover the entire Costa Rica in its entirety so you shouldn’t worry about the possibility of not having service if you are traveling to Heredia.

Does Verizon Work At Veragua Rainforest Eco-Adventure?

I am trying to find a Verizon network in Veragua Rainforest Eco Adventure, however, I cannot find a network.

So, you’re going to have to drive around for a while before the signal is good enough to be able to use the internet.

If you want to learn more, you can also see our posts on whether or not Verizon works in New Hampshire, if Verizon doesn’t work in the Bahamas, if Verizon works in El Salvador, and if Verizon works in the U.K..

Conclusion

Verizon services work in Costa Rica, but Verizon services are not available in all provinces and are sporadic at best.

You can also choose to activate LTE on the phone for higher coverage, but you can’t activate both voice and data at the same time.
The above scenario is the same as you in a rural area.

While it will take a bit more work, our first recommendation would be to add Verizon TravelPass to your account, so you won’t have to deal with expensive roaming fees.
