The love for Avengers Endgame by different individuals and groups is creating hype on various social media networks.
Thor is known to be one of the strongest members of Avengers. Also is the true king of Asgard after Odin passed away.
We cannot picture Thor without his hammer, Thor’s Mjolnir. It is said that Captain America can lift Thor’s hammer because only a worthy being of the Marvel universe can lift the Mjolnir.
In the endgame, we witnessed the most iconic moments of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. One of them is when Captain America lifted the Mjolnir with ease to defeat the mighty Thanos.
There are many theories and explanations for why Captain America picked Mjolnir, but we will give the most reasonable answer here.
Why did Captain America not use Mjolnir if He was Worthy?
All the Marvel fans remember when Steve Rogers moved the Mjolnir in the Avengers age of Ultron.
The actor who plays the character of Captain America, Chris Evans, made a statement in an interview that Steve Rogers(Captain America) knew that he could lift the Mjolnir.
But he never did to please Thor’s ego to be the sole worthy person to pick Mjolnir. In this scene, the expressions given by Chris Hemsworth (Thor) do justify the statement given by Chris Evans in the interview.
The character of Captain America is helpful and caring. He even tries to save Bucky Barnes (Winter Soldier) from Iron Man in the civil war. Steve Rogers was aware that the Winter Soldier killed Tony’s parents in the past.
He decides not to tell anyone because Winter Soldier was in Hydra’s control all the time.
The behavior of Steve Rogers indicates that he did care about Thor and his feelings about Mjolnir. That is why he decides not to use Mjolnir till any extreme emergency occurs. But we do not know if Captain America can travel through space as Thor does with the help of Mjolnir and Stormbreaker.
Who is Considered Worthy According to Thor and Asgardian Mythology in Marvel Cinematic Universe?
Any being with a pure heart who had nobility and great honor is worthy to wield the Mjolnir. Odin banished Thor to Midgard (Earth) because he was not worthy to lift the Mjolnir.
In the past, Thor was greedy because of his powers and used to drink and party a lot which is not a noble warriors’ quality. But in Midgard, he made himself selfless and noble to lift the Mjolnir again.
But Thor and Captain America are not the only characters to lift the Mjolnir in the marvel cinematic universe. There are two more characters to lift the Mjolnir and Stormbreaker.
We are considering both because a person needs to be worthy of lifting both Stormbreaker and Mjolnir. They are produced with the same Uru metal in the heat of a dying star.
The first character is the Vision; he lifted the Mjolnir with ease in Avengers 2 – Age of Ultron. The Vision could lift the Mjolnir because he was a selfless and strong robot or humanoid.
He also used Mjolnir several times in the movie, but the question remains: Can vision travel through space with the help of this hammer?
The other character who is worthy is the Groot. Nothing is official, but Groot did pick the Stormbreaker for a couple of seconds. The teenage Groot shocked everyone when he lifted the ax and used his hand to handle the Stormbreaker.
There was a long debate about whether Groot is worthy or not, but it makes sense that Groot is worthy because he is one of the last warriors on his planet.
We saw how selfless he is in Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 1. And he was even ready to sacrifice himself again in volume 2 when he entered into Ego’s heart to destroy him.
These two characters make the explanation even stronger of Captain America being worthy. Because the reasons are the same in all three cases, and worthiness is the reason why Thor also wields the Mjolnir.
Where is Mjolnir now, and who is Currently Using it?
The Mjolnir is safe with the original holder, the Thor. There is no proper explanation on the next move of Marvel with the Hammer and Thor.
All we know is that Chris Hemsworth (Thor) will appear in the Thor movie’s next installment, ‘Thor Love and Thunder,’ and he can also appear in the Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3.
Mjolnir may appear in Guardians of the Galaxy because Thor leaves the earth with the remaining Guardians of the Galaxy in the climax of the Endgame.
We also know that Chris Hemsworth’s Thor is not the lead character in the next Thor movie, and the plot is set to pass the legacy to a female Thor.
Currently, Thor does not have the most powerful Mjolnir with him. That is why the chances are high in the next Thor movie where Marvel writers will give the Mjolnir to the female Thor, and Thor will keep the Stormbreaker for himself.
We are sure about Captain America not having Mjolnir because he is old and retired for now, but who knows what Russo Brothers have in their mind. We never know their next move about the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Final Thoughts
Let’s wrap it up, hope you all have no doubts about the Mjolnir and why Captain America was able to lift the Mjolnir in the Avengers Endgame. We know about the new phases in the Marvel Cinematic Universe; they focus on new characters and ideas, all old main Avengers are semi-retired or out of the scene for now.
Talking about the Mjolnir, the hammer got destroyed to be the Hela (Thor’s evil sister), but Thor brought the old hammer from the past during the time heist.
In the current timeline, the hammer is back to the original timeline from when Thor wielded it in the Endgame.
