You’ve heard about how Amazon is selling thousands of products through third-party sellers. But you may not have known that it runs other businesses as well, like a wholesale marketplace and logistics platform.
If you’re selling something on Amazon, you probably have some questions about selling on Amazon before getting started. One of the most common questions you may have is about an account reserve. I’ve looked into everything you need to know about account level reserve on Amazon!
What Is Account Level Reserve Amazon In 2022?
Seller reserves are a common method of Amazon’s insurance program to protect against losses. While an account level reserve will keep you from having to go into debt, a seller reserve will keep your profit from being completely wiped out in the event of chargebacks, returns, or other financial obligations, allowing you to continue selling on Amazon.

What Is An Account Level Reserve On Amazon?
Amazon reserves money in an account for you, so that it can cover any charges that Amazon might assess for you for a dispute or any other reason.
In case of a loss, the account level reserve will be used to cover the losses. The amount of the reserve will be determined at the end of every quarter.
And if the account level reserve is listed on your account, you can assume that the listing is fine. However, if the account level reserve is not listed, you will want to ask for an explanation.
The “Statement View” section of your Amazon “Statement” report is where you can find your total money stored in Amazon Payments.
Why Do Amazon Sellers Need Account Level Reserves?
There are several reasons for Amazon to set an account level reserve on your Amazon business. Essentially, Amazon wants to ensure that you have enough money to cover any charges that may arise from doing business on the platform.
The seller is obliged to open a claim for a non-existing guarantee, as the product itself is not worth the money you are paying for it.
If you have an A-to-Z Guarantee policy in your account, your claim amount is held in your account level reserve until it is resolved.
The next time you are shopping on Amazon, there is a good chance you will see two buttons on a product page: ‘A-to-Z Guarantee’ and ‘Verified Purchase’.
And sometimes, these claims can take up to 14 days to process. Once the claim is processed, the reserve is released.
Your order has been refunded due to a chargeback.
That Amazon reserves funds in your account level reserve accounts for a reason. That reason is that Amazon wants to collect funds from unrefunded purchases that are being reversed by an outside source. If Amazon doesn’t have the funds for those purchases, then they shouldn’t have sold them in the first place.
The funds are placed back into the exchange’s account.
This has been a seller’s market for more than six months. Since the beginning of the year, I am seeing a lot of transactions being completed at the very low end. These transactions are being funded by the buyers and not by the sellers. I may have to write off my inventory at the beginning of the year.
If an Amazon seller’s performance falls below the company’s benchmarks, a seller might have won money in the account level reserve section.
Another reason for this is that people who review better-rated products more often will receive more benefits – such as free products, discounts, etc. – if they have better ratings than those who review less frequently.

The Amazon reserves a portion of your sales price in case they need to pay out their own costs (like the Amazon workers that process items or the shipping costs). Also, if you take longer shipping than usual, the Amazon reserves funds.
This is due to the fact that you are not eligible for standard tax payer status unless you have paid income tax for your last 12 months in that period.
Although, this doesn’t always apply. And, we don’t want to have too much reserve and the seller loses money due to a mistake.
Are There Different Account Level Reserve Tiers?
The basic tier requires no minimum balance. The premium tier requires a minimum balance of 1,000 USD, while the gold tier requires a minimum balance of 20,000 USD.
What Are The Differences Between Amazon Account Level Reserves?
Tier One is the most basic level, and is meant for the most common items. Tier One is the lowest tier and has very limited inventory and storage space.
Tier one is your best option. You want to choose something that doesn’t have any major downsides.
If you see something like “There is no payment method information on file with this transaction.” and you cannot make a charge, that may be because there’s a problem with the payment gateway. Contact the seller, and ask about payment options. If they only accept PayPal or Dwolla, you have no other payment channel to accept incoming transactions through Amazon Pay.

This is the tier of sellers that do not qualify for free shipping. In order to qualify for this option, you have to have a minimum of at least one thousand dollars worth of products for sale.
If you use the “Payback” link at the top of the page to automatically payback any outstanding transactions, this is considered an unresolved transaction dispute and we will not consider it in the computation of the reserve.
The Tier Two-Plus group contains all the players that have won at least seven events.
The amount in the reserve column that represents the average value of all unresolved dispute cases. This figure is calculated as the average value of all dispute cases that fall under an ‘Unresolved’ category (including resolved but unresolved) that have been recorded during the past 60 days.

As a responsible Amazon business, you must have cash reserves to cover various financial obligations like your Amazon FBA account, your state and government taxes, and legal obligations.
If a seller has open A-to-Z Guarantee claims or dip below specific standards, Amazon could reserve funds.

Also, account level reserves are a normal part of selling on Amazon, so don’t be concerned if you have some funds in this account and I’m recommending selling on Amazon.
