With the busy at Aldi and in the rest of retail in general, most of our shoppers take the extra time to shop at Aldi. In fact, many of our shoppers tell us they can’t imagine shopping anywhere else.
I have met many employees who have had to be on their feet for hours at a time and I understand their reasons for being tired. As with most retail stores, the shifts are very busy and the stores need to be ready to open at 9 AM in order to be open for the entire day, and most stores close around 7:30 PM.

At Aldi the minimum hourly wage after the tax is $21.50, and there is currently a mandatory 15 minute unpaid break after each shift, and no unpaid break on the first day of the week.
The company promises that employees will earn time-and-a-half overtime pay for all hours worked over 40 hours per week, up to the federally mandated maximum of $47.25 per hour (plus benefits). Thus, the company estimates that it would pay its employees at least $20/hour. If, however, employees work longer than six hours a day, the company promises to pay them for at least the first four hours at $20/hour.
If you work for less than seven hours, you’re entitled to one of these breaks every shift.
One of those unpaid breaks can be up to seven hours. The other unpaid break can be zero hours, if you don’t want to do it.
