Amazon, one of the world’s largest online retail companies, has recently acquired other companies such as Audible, Whole Foods, and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.
However, because it has many similarities to Amazon Music, some customers wonder if Amazon owns Spotify? If you’d like to learn more about this topic, keep reading this article for more information on this subject.
Does Amazon Own Spotify?
Amazon is a company that produces a lot of different things, like the Amazon app store, Amazon Echo, or even Kindle e-reader devices. As for the Amazon Music streaming service, this was a free service provided by Amazon that allowed people to listen to music within the Amazon app store.
Here are some facts you might not have known about Spotify, such as who owns it, its similarities to amazon music, and how it’s compatible with Amazon’s products.
Who is Spotify Owned By?
Spotify is the largest music streaming service in the world and has nearly 381 million users. The company is based in Sweden and was founded in 2006 by Daniel Ek.
Spotify can be downloaded for free in most countries and offers over 70 million songs.
The app allows customers to stream unlimited amounts of music without worrying about paying for each individual song.
Also, Spotify not only makes popular music available for streaming, but it also provides the means for musicians to include their own music into the Spotify music library.
Are Amazon Music and Spotify the Same?
We have decided to rename our music service to Amazon Music, and will redirect users who have already downloaded and installed Spotify to that app.
I don’t have data on this, but I will assume that the above is incorrect because, if it is incorrect, then Amazon does not own Spotify. This might be because Amazon did not purchase Spotify and is leasing the service as a service, where as Spotify did purchase the service.
The main similarity between Amazon Music and Spotify is that both apps run on a monthly membership. Customers with Spotify can also stream music. Also, Spotify has been around longer than Amazon Music (and the music industry) has…
The Amazon Music membership is free and offers unlimited streaming, offline access, and the ability to create up to three personalised playlists of your favorite songs.
However, both of these services offer a similar user experience. You can download most of the content you want to listen to, and you also have the option to stream or purchase content within each app.
Is Spotify Better than Amazon Music?
Spotify is better when it comes to discovery. A huge portion of the music that is discovered on Spotify is from new releases. Amazon Music doesn’t have that discovery and the music is on the older and more dated side.
Spotify is better at discovery with playlists. Amazon Music is better at saving artist on your library.
Spotify is better at search.
For example, the price of Spotify is $9.99 per month, while it only costs $7.99 per month for Amazon Music and is also free for Amazon Prime members.
Since Amazon offers the music high-fidelity and at no extra cost, there is no incentive for Spotify to get involved with that business.
Spotify, on the other hand, is better for a person to subscribe to as a music player. Amazon Music has a much wider selection of songs than Spotify. Spotify on the other hand has more control over your listening experience.
As well as being much easier to use Spotify’s app is also much more reliable.
Ultimately, both apps are better than the other in certain areas, but you’re going to have to decide which app best suits your needs.
Is Spotify Compatible With Amazon Devices?
Customers who own an Alexa enabled device will be able to use Spotify but they will have to buy the Echo speaker to do that.
Spotify is currently available for any iOS device. The app is a Universal App, meaning that it has support for both iPhones and iPads.
If you would like to connect Spotify to Amazon Alexa, then you need to use the following method.
After the setup is complete customers will be able to open and use Spotify by using Alexa commands such as “Spotify Connect” and a number of other regular commands.
The device will work over Bluetooth, and will connect to your smartphone as well.
For those who do not want to get up from the couch, Spotify on Echo is more than just an Alexa skill — you can make requests for any of your favorite tracks directly from the speaker.
Is Spotify Available in the Amazon Appstore?
Even though Amazon does not own Spotify, customers who get an Amazon brand device can still download Spotify from the Amazon Appstore.
That being said, I’m looking forward to finding out how many people that are reading this right now has no idea what is Spotify or an Alexa.
Does Amazon Sell Spotify Gift Cards?
Amazon also sells digital gift cards to people who want to give physical iTunes gift cards at a discounted price, so you can give physical iTunes gift cards at a discounted price.
Currently Spotify has three different ways to get your own Spotify account, if you’re already interested in listening to music.
At this time, Amazon doesn’t currently sell Spotify gift cards individually. They’re only sold for subscriptions that last a whole year.

Conclusion
The fact that Amazon is involved in this does not mean that they own Spotify.
While Amazon does own Amazon Music, Amazon is a big company. They have a lot of money and they have a large presence in many areas, including retail. Thus, they can afford to invest in many fields, including technology.
It used to be that Spotify had to be downloaded from the Windows Store, and you couldn’t download it to a Kindle.
You can connect Alexa to your Spotify account and control the music on your speaker, TV or car.
