Why Doesn’t USPS Forward IRS & Other Government Mail?
I can’t find a definitive answer but I think the USPS is not required to forward government-issued mail.
I am thinking that it is because they are getting a lot from the government and are getting a lot of mail.
If you lost your social security card, you can go online and apply for a new one.
This does not mean you have to get a physical card to apply for SSI.
It just means they will mail you your card.
Imagine registering your change of address is really easy too, and you can do all that in your web browser.
Say the card got forwarded to your new address, and some criminal element was out there, checking the mailboxes of houses with For Sale/Sold signs out front with the thought of stealing the check.
If they steal your stuff, they’ll find your whole social security number.
This is the equivalent of someone breaking in and stealing an expensive item from your home.
Unless you’re moving from a thousand miles away, then the costs of moving should be minimal.
The whole point of using online services is that you don’t have to rely on a third party. Mailboxes out in the open are vulnerable to physical attack.
It’s hard to imagine that the federal government would be stupid enough to mess up an official policy, so this sounds like a joke.
If you want to avoid losing your money to fraud, you need to make sure that you only deal with trusted organisations, and that you avoid opening any suspicious packages or envelopes.
The federal government is trying to avoid problems by making it difficult for the U.S. Postal Service to move any mail.

How Do You Receive IRS & Government Mail From USPS After A Move?

What Mail Doesn’t USPS Forward?
Bulk letters, envelopes and postcards are handled in the U.S.
If you send to China, you must pay postage. China is listed as a special foreign country.
You can only receive the 3.50 USD First Class rate for any letter if you are sending to the U.S.
You can only receive the 5.00 USD Domestic Flat Rate rate for any letter if you are sending to U.S. or to an APO address.

Although this can be a bit of an inconvenience sometimes, there’s really no real cost to it, and you could always just pay a little extra to just have that stuff sent to you.
There are very few instances that a person should move away from a US citizen or resident, which might cause the individual to lose an opportunity to receive a visa.
This is not a blanket statement that can be applied to all visa situations.
