I found out so much more than I ever expected about USPS standard shipping options. I’ll show you why I’m so passionate about it!

USPS Standard Shipping In 2022

Standard shipping is the cheapest way to send packages and letters. The service includes both First-Class and Priority Mail services as of 2022. First-Class mail includes postcards, letters and small packages weighing up to 13 ounces, and Priority Mail includes large envelopes and packages up to 70 pounds. Both First-Class and Priority Mail packages arrive in 1-3 business days, while First-Class letters arrive in 1-5 business days.

When it comes to shipping, you want to know everything you can about it. You’ll want to be the best you can be, and you’ll want to know how to make things even better.

What Is Standard Shipping for USPS?

A standard shipping method is the cheapest shipping method out of a carrier’s network of shipping speeds.

The standard shipping method doesn’t include overnight delivery or special packages just for faster delivery. Delivery via truck is usually faster than via airplane.

USPS offers two standard shipping services. If you are a United States resident, you can select one of them.

First-class mail refers to the kind of mail that is in a letter envelope and usually weighed up to 13 ounces. People usually get things sent through first-class mail.

There are many different services offered at USPS. The least expensive, First-Class Mail is the cheapest for mailing small items.

Priority Mail is used for larger envelopes and packages which weigh up to 70 pounds and is also one of the cheapest mailing options to use.

How Long Does Standard Shipping Take USPS?

Your postal carrier may have a backlog in your area.
The mail distribution center may be short on employees and resources.
The U.S. Postal Service will not always deliver mail on-time.
Your area may not have enough personnel to go around.

Regardless of which factor is causing your delay, you can always choose to hold your shipment until you receive it or re-ship it.

With all of the above in mind, First-Class Mail (i.e. letters, cards, postcards) takes between 1-5 business days to arrive, while First-Class packages arrive in 1-3 business days.

Please note: First-Class Mail and First-Class packages are not recommended for regular or frequently used items, and must be carefully packaged for safe and efficient shipping.

However, there’s really no way to know for sure when the first package will arrive.

How Much Does USPS Standard Shipping Cost?

USPS Ground shipping: 3-5 business days USPS Priority Mail $12.00
USPS Priority Mail Express: 1 business day $25.00
USPS Priority Express:2 business days $45.00
USPS First Class Postage: 3 business days $7.00

Items weighing more than 55 lbs will ship at the US Priority Mail rate. Note:
Some oversized items may not qualify for the discounted shipping rate.

I would suggest you not to ship those things via USPS, because they do not offer anything for free.

Postage on First-Class mail is generally a flat rate depending on weight and destination. It can be anywhere from $0.25 – $1.25 depending on the weight and distance. First-Class Mail is sent via the Post Office and is a fast and reliable way to send mail. To find out where your mail will go, visit the Post Office website and find your local mailing address.

The largest envelopes that I can receive for the price is $1.00, and the smallest is $5.00.

The price can be calculated using the weight, dimensions, and destination country of the shipment.

If you want to take advantage of Priority Mail’s Flat Rate, you will need to have at least 4 boxes and/or envelopes delivered to you or pick them up from your local post office. You will need to get at least four boxes and/or envelopes delivered to your home and have them shipped to our headquarters. You will also need to have the correct return envelope created with your address on it.

If you are only sending a small amount of items, or only a few items, Flat Rate envelopes are usually the cheapest option. If you’re mailing a lot of items, or a lot of items long distances, you are usually better off sending them in a Flat Rate box.

USPS rates for Flat Rate First Class Mail are based on weight, weight/dimension (combined weight or combined length and width) and service option.

When you receive a price quote for Flat Rate First Class Mail from USPS, you can either choose to select one of the service options offered, or you can enter your own weight and dimensions for your shipment. The shipping rates and options available will be displayed in the shipping costs box provided during the quote process.

For Priority Mail, there is no free upgrade option from 2-day to Next Day air delivery. If volume exceeds 0.5 cubic feet and weight exceeds 20 pounds, the cost of shipping to your location is determined using the Cubic Pricing option.

Customers pay for the package plus the shipping, which is calculated on the size of the package and the shipping distance.

This method lets the customer choose whether he wants to mail a package using a first-class or an expedited postage. The customer gets to choose between first-class and expedited depending on the size of the package to be mailed.

Is USPS Standard Shipping Trackable?

First-Class and Priority Mail offers free tracking options for all packages and letters, and tracking is included at no additional cost on First-Class items and all Priority Mail items.

So, to be eligible for USPS tracking, the mail must be packaged in a manner that is suitable for the USPS.

Unfortunately, if you pay extra to have an item inspected or authenticated, you cannot apply for a refund.

If you can confirm your letter has reached its destination, you’ll know that your message has been transmitted, but you won’t know if it got there in a timely fashion.

While they are not exactly tracking, they give recipients an idea of what will be delivered to their inbox.

Does USPS Standard Shipping Come With Insurance?

First-Class Letters and packages do not come with insurance but you can buy up to $5,000 of insurance to protect against loss or damage.

If the item is fully covered, you could save a lot of money in insurance.

Priority Mail offers up to $50 of insurance in case your order gets lost or damaged. If you have a valuable item that you want to ship, you can elect to purchase additional insurance worth up to $5000 and get a guaranteed replacement for your items.

Conclusion

Both First-Class Mail and Priority Mail are suitable options for shipping gifts. However, each type of mail has its advantages. When selecting a type of shipping for your gift, it is helpful to consider a few things.

For a low cost, both companies offer fast shipping. Priority Mail offers more services like tracking and insurance, but both of these can be added to First-Class items for an additional fee.
