Actor and martial artist Carlos Ray “Chuck” Norris was born on the 10th of March in 1940, in Oklahoma City, as Carlos Ray Norris, the son of Wilma and Ray Norris, a WW1 soldier, mechanic, and driver.

He quickly became involved in martial arts as a child, earning his black belt by 18. After graduating from high school, Norris enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving six years as an Air Policeman.

He then attended North Texas State University on an athletic scholarship in 1959.

However, he dropped out after two years to join the United States Air Force again. Norris left for the military for the second time shortly after marrying his high school sweetheart Dianne Holechek in 1962.

When he returned to civilian life again in 1965, he took up work as a martial arts instructor at Fort Bragg while also competing professionally worldwide with fellow martial artists Chuck Connors (of TV’s The Rifleman fame) and Joe Lewis.

He opened his first karate school in Torrance, California, later that year. Among his students were Steve McQueen and Priscilla Presley.
