What is Apple Pay?
Apple Pay is the name for a system. It’s not a credit card. It’s an Apple Inc. mobile digital wallet and payment system. It allows users to pay (using their smartphone) in person, online, or through an app.
Apple Pay is available only on Apple devices. It resides in your phone as a digital copy (s) of your credit card. It can be used wherever contactless payments are accepted.
Apple Pay uses a technology called NFC technology that is already in use.
Apple Inc hopes that users will assume that Apple Pay can be used anywhere they shop. Apple Pay must be set up on the phone by the user, and then the store must accept and approve Apple Pay.
Participating aps or websites must also adopt the Apple Pay API (or “application programming interface”), which allows “talk” between two apps.
Apple Pay is not accepted by all stores or chains, such as Walmart. They are committed to using other digital payment systems.
Is Apple Pay better?
Apple Inc claims that Apple Pay is faster, more convenient and, above all, more secure than any other form of payment.
Apple Pay was created to replace the need to carry around multiple physical credit cards. Apple Pay made it so that you could just pull out your phone and make a purchase, rather than having to search through your whole wallet.
Apple Pay is more secure than traditional methods of payment because the cashier won’t see your credit card number, address or other personal information.
It is simple and straightforward to set up and Apple claims that in-store checkout is very smooth.
You just need to make sure that the Apple Pay icon is displayed at the checkout of the store or website.
How do I know if I can use Apple Pay?
Look for the Apple Pay icon whenever you shop. It looks like an Apple with the word “Pay” next to it. Both are enclosed in a rectangular with rounded corners. The icon is always the same in size, always in black or white, and has a clear area around it.
Apple doesn’t allow merchants alter the format, design or colour of their icons, so you will always find the same icon.
Apple encourages stores to promote Apple Pay. If you are a member, you will hopefully receive an email, a banner or some other announcement.
Menchie’s accepts what forms of payment?
Menchie’s accepts Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover payments for online orders and purchases of cakes. You can also use these in-store with cash, debit cards and/or store gift card.
Menchie’s cannot accept store gift cards online. Menchie’s website does not mention Apple Pay as a digital payment option.
Apple Support states that while some stores might display the symbol on the card reader terminals, they may not actually be set up to accept apple Pay contactless payments.
They recommend that you let Apple Pay know if Apple Pay is not available at a store that displays the payment symbol.
How do I use Apple Pay?
First, look out for the Apple Pay icon when you are in a retail shop and approach a point of sale system.
To authenticate the app on your smartphone with touch ID or face ID, you will need to use either touch ID or face ID. Tap to select a different card. Keep your iPhone’s top near the contactless reader, until you see the “Done” icon along with a tick.
You will hear a vibration and a sound to confirm that you have paid.
