The Games That Have Been a Hit in 2023

Whether you are a hardened online player looking for your next thrilling fix of live poker – or a classic fantasy video gamer currently inhabiting a world far far away (your bedroom), there has never been a better time to have fun on the internet.

There are currently more fantastic games available that at any time in history. They are better, faster, last longer – and look and sound nicer than ever before.

Players today range from those who like spending evenings blowing up zombies – to those who like choosing a quick easy thrill with slingo games at a top gaming site like Rainbow Riches Casino.

Millions of players across the world are making online gaming and games of chance one of the big growth entertainment industries of today – and the future.

But what are the games that most players are heading for in 2023? Which are the biggest gaming hits of the year?

We spoke to industry insiders to try to come up with a definitive list of the best games of the year. This is the latest estimate of those titles based on player numbers:

1. League of Legends

The surprise number one is the versatile online battlefield game, League of Legends, which has been around for more than a decade.

But industry insiders reckon LoL scores so highly because it is a multi-player game that increasingly attracts groups of friends to play.

The dedicated fan base constantly seems to be attracting new players to its fold, without necessarily buying new copies of the game.

2. PUBG: Battlegrounds

Again, not one of the big glamorous names, but PUBG has millions of players worldwide in 2023.

They are drawn to its realistic battle simulation visuals and exciting gameplay. In some formats more than 100 players compete against each other.

Multiply that round the world and you’ll see how it can rack up huge numbers of followers.

3. Fortnite

Notice a theme emerging? This is another battle royale game that has taken the gaming world by storm in recent years.

Things that have helped its fan-base grow so big in 2023 include that it’s a good game – but also its free-to-play model and cross-platform availability.

4. Minecraft

In at number 4 is the long-standing favourite sandbox game. From toddlers to silver-surfers, Minecraft consumes players with its opportunities to build and explore a virtual world.

In fact, since its release in 2011 Minecraft has grown more and more popular.

5. Roblox

This is a bit harder to explain to those who have never tried it. Roblox is technically not a game but a platform.

It allows you to create and play games made by other users. This has allowed it to evolve and grow so that now it has a large user base of both creators and players.

6. Apex Legends

This battle royale game gained popularity quickly after its release in 2019. Six teams of players battle over an island using the weapons and resources they can scavage.

7. Among Us

Something a little different has entered the 2023 top game charts. Among Us is a game of social deduction that has exploded in popularity.

Experts reckon it is still growing. Players have to try to identify and eliminate the “imposters” among their crewmates on a spaceship.

However, experts note that if you are only counting console video games the charts might include familiar series titles like Call of Duty, Assassin’s Creed, Resident Evil  and Super Mario.

But if you add in games at online casinos too, say the experts, the charts become even harder to verify.

What is clear however, they say, is that the most popular types of casino games are challenging console and video games for player numbers.

The most popular casino games of 2023 include slots, blackjack and roulette. Big numbers are also attracted to games like Slingo, poker and craps.

Games are growing

Both online games of chance and video games currently have large and growing player bases, and both industries are reporting significant revenue growth.

According to another recent report, the global online casino market is expected to reach US $127.3 billion by 2027, indicating a significant increase in popularity.

The video game industry has also seen a significant growth in recent years, with another expert estimating that the global gaming market will reach $218.5 billion by the end of 2023.

That’s all about revenue – but it’s still difficult to say which category is more popular in terms of player numbers. It’s clear that both online games of chance and adventure are rapidly growing industries.

And for the game player that is great news too. Whether you prefer slingo to solo combat, there have never been more great games available to play whenever and wherever you want.
