As Costco liquor goes, Kirkland is the best. But if you decide to buy from Costco, there are a few things you need to realize.

15 Things To Know Before Buying Costco Liquor
1. Costco Has a Low Price Markup on Liquor
In Costco’s case, the markup for merchandise tends to be lower than that of other retailers, by about 10 percent.
because of this, your next bottle of wine will be cheaper at Costco, and you can get a much bigger bottle for the same price as smaller bottles from other stores.
They only make a small profit margin on each bottle, but that is more than compensated for by their large sales in large volume.
2. Costco’s Liquor Selection Is Unmatched
If you don’t see an item on-site that you’re looking for, Costco has a website that lets you browse their inventory. If you find something, you simply click a button and add it to your cart. 5. Costco Has Top-Shelf Wine and Liquor Available
Do you know what this is? This is a Dom Pérignon bottle. You can get it at Costco, but not usually in your neighborhood store. The story behind this $100 bottle is that when the Louis XV, who was the king of the French, came to Moscow in 1724, he drank this wine with the Tsar. And this bottle is still there. It was kept in a special cellars and they don’t usually open it.
If you like spending the money in bulk, check out the Costco Wholesale Club. That means they are getting a bulk discount on the products, so they are more expensive than buying them individually at the store.
The Costco Wholesale Club has been around since 1988, so they have been stocking tons of products, so this is something you need to watch out for while you shop at the store.
6. You Can Sometimes Shop Costco Liquor Without a Membership
Liquor stores in these states don’t require that you be a member to purchase their products.
If you walk into our store, and tell the employee at the front that you are coming to buy liquor, you will be allowed to purchase liquor regardless of whether you have a membership or not.
Costco is a membership store, and they do not take members based on the state of their residency. You can buy their membership in most states, and since they are a warehouse club, it does not matter where you live. There is no annual fee, and there are Costco locations within driving distance of most of the states mentioned above.
7. Liquor Selections Vary by Costco Location
The type of liquor you can buy at Costco may vary by state, as some states have regulations that prohibit alcohol sales outside of a liquor store. To find all of the stores that sell Costco alcohol in your area, click here.
I’m not sure whether this applies to hard liquor or not. They tend to have very weird laws about alcohol (e.g. the fact that alcohol cannot be sold on Sundays, and that you cannot drive intoxicated).
You can purchase some wines and spirits before 7 PM, but some stores will only have these items after 7 PM. And the same goes for the weekends.
Also, the store will check your ID, and you will need to check your local regulations to find out when you are able to visit the store.
8. Costco Has Liquor Gift Baskets Available
Gift baskets are always a great way to show your gratitude with gift baskets that are easy to grab and take with you. Go to your favorite Costco and pick out a gift basket that is specific to the occasion. You can also grab a bulk gift basket for all the occasion!
You don’t have to give the best in your gift baskets. Find the items you prefer most and put them in a seasonal basket.
9. Clearance Items Have Asterisks
There are certain foods that are considered Kosher and halal which are more expensive than others.
You will see this icon if the price is reduced or you are currently on a promotion.
In this case, the clearance items are the items that have been marked down to an even lower price. So once the items have been marked down, they can no longer be sold even at that much of a discount.
10. Costco Restocks Liquor Early
Costco always restocks their shelves early and often. If you are looking for a favorite spirit, you can always check back the next day.
11. There Is a Better Time to Buy Liquor at Costco
You are more likely to shop at Costco on a weekend, because there are fewer shoppers.
For example, buy your alcohol on Monday and freeze it, and you will have it available without the wait for your first purchase.

If you’re able to return your Costco products to Costco, then Costco will cover any return shipping cost incurred when they return the bottles to Costco for their refund.
If you are not able to return your Costco products to Costco for any reason, you may be responsible for the return shipping cost.
