Dem Health Care Plan A “Faustian Web Of Bureaucracy,” Say GOP’ers

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

By Laura Woodhead – Talk Radio News Service

The Democratic health care plan will hurt the nation’s economy as well as its health care system said House GOP leaders Wednesday. The Republicans spoke at a press conference during which they unveiled their visual representation of the Democrats’ reform bill.

House Minority Leader Rep. John Boehner (R-Ohio) said that the Democrats’ plan would worsen the current recession by destroying jobs as well as restricting Americans’ options on health care.

“What this is going to do is ration care, limit the choices that patients and doctors have and really decrease the quality of the health care system.” Boehner said. “If this isn’t bad enough think about the giant increase in taxes that comes as a result of this, killing more jobs in America.”

The Republicans also released a chart designed to make Americans skeptical of the Democrats’ plan. The chart depicted thirty one new federal programs, agencies, commissions and mandates that would be created by the Democrats’ plan. Such added bureaucracy would “get in between the patient and their health care provider,” argued Rep. Kevin Brady (R- Texas.).

“The American people are asking how will all this will work, and today they get the first peek at how a government take over of health care would affect them.” Brady said. “Why would any patient be forced to hand over control of their health care decisions over to this Faustian web of Washington Bureaucracy?”

Boehner asserted that the economy would suffer greatly if the bill is rushed through, arguing that the American public should view the plan for at least 72 hours so that they will know what’s “in store for them.”

“It’s clear who is paying for this plan, and it is the small business men and women” Boehner said.

“It might make for a lovely board game but it makes for horrible health care system” said Rep. Thaddeus McCotter (R- Mich.). “I would hope that [the Democrats] reconsider, focus on the economy, stop the insanity and start creating jobs.”

Boehner Rejects White House’s Notion That Stimulus Has Worked

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

By Celia Canon-Talk Radio News Service

On Thursday, House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio.) slammed Vice President Joe Biden over the inefficiency of the Democrats’ stimulus plan and the lack of jobs it has created in Boehner’s home state of Ohio.

“Ohio’s unemployment rate is above 10 percent. The nation’s unemployment continues to rise. And families and small businesses across the country are asking, ‘Mr. Vice President, where are the jobs?’,” Boehner said.

Boehner blamed the Obama administration for its inability to restore jobs to Americans across the country.

“The administration promised the stimulus would keep unemployment below 8 percent, and they promised the stimulus would create jobs immediately. It’s pretty clear now that the administration was wrong,” Boehner said.

The House Minority Leader cited other Democratic legislation that he believes could worsen the economy as well, saying “Here we are at a time when we’re trying to save jobs in America, help get our economy going again, and all people see is a lot of wasteful Washington spending, job-killing measures like energy and health care, and, oh, yes, we’ve got to take care of the saltwater marsh mouse.”

On Wedndesay, Boehner said President Obama and Vice President Biden have been telling lies about why the Stimulus package hasn’t reversed the nation’s spiraling unemployment rate, and argued that GOP-backed tax cut plans would a better solution to return momentum to the struggling economy.

Boehner also touched on the recent letter which incriminates the CIA on enhanced interrogation methods, insisting that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi should apologize for having accused the intelligence agency of a lack of transparency.

“I do not believe that the CIA lied to Congress. I’m still waiting for Speaker Pelosi to either put up the facts or retract her statement and apologize. And I don’t know that this letter changes anything with regard to the speaker’s action,” Boehner said.

Boehner Warns That Health Care Reform Will Lead To Further Job Loss

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

During a press conference Thursday, House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) warned that the proposed reforms to the U.S. health care system may lead to further job loss.

“When you raise the cost of employment…you get less employees. There’s no question that their proposal raises the costs of employers to have employees, because it requires all employers to have health care,” Boehner explained (0:15)

Boehner: GOP Could Have Saved Twice As Many Jobs

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

By Justin Duckham-Talk Radio News Service

House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) claimed during a press conference Thursday that if the economic recovery efforts were placed in the hands of Congressional Republicans, at least twice as many jobs would have been created.

“Our projections…would be that we would have created twice as many jobs, at half the cost. Given the fact that unemployment continues to rise, we probably could have created ten times as many jobs as [Congressional Democrats] have.”

Boehner claimed that he had based the conclusion off the same method the White House is currently using to compose their statistics.

The House Minority Leader warned that the upcoming health care reform will contribute to further job loss.

“This isn’t hard to figure out. When you raise the cost of employment…you get less employees. There’s no question that their proposal raises the costs of employers to have employees, because it requires all employers to have health care,” Boehner explained.

The Department of Labor recently released a report showing that 9.5% of Americans are currently unemployed.

Boehner also attacked Congressional Democrats’ management of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

“16 million of the stimulus money was appropriated to take care of the salt marsh harvest mouse,” said Boehner, who appeared alongside a picture of the endangered rodent based in Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) district. “People a hundred miles away have farms that are drying up because they wouldn’t use any stimulus money to turn on the pumps.”

Boehner Accuses White House Of Lying About Stimulus

Wednesday, July 8th, 2009

By Celia Canon- Talk Radio News Service

During a press conference Wednesday, House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio.) said President Obama and Vice President Biden have been telling lies about why the Stimulus package hasn’t reversed the nation’s spiraling unemployment rate.

“I found it interesting in the last couple of days, the Vice President and the President mentioned the fact they didn’t realize how difficult an economic circumstance we were in. Now this is the biggest fabrication I’ve seen since I’ve been in Congress. I’ve sat through those meetings at the White House with the President, the Vice President, trust me there’s not one person that sat in those rooms that didn’t know how serious our economic crisis was,” Boehner said.

Reps. John Boehner (R-Ohio.), Mike Pence (R-Ind.) and Cathy McMorris-Rodgers (R-Wa) cautioned that the recent legislation put forth by the Democrats will do nothing but increase taxes which, in the long term, will hinder consumer spending.

“Republicans know and the American people know that what we need is fiscal discipline in Washington D.C and we need to give the American people a tax relief, working families, small businesses and family
farms need more of their hard earned money to put this economy back on its feet,” said Pence.

As for health care, McMorris-Rodgers explained that “We cannot forget that doctors are the experts, we must guard that relationship between the doctor and his patient; it is one of the most valued relationships
that we have,” adding that “We can reform health care, and we can give options to the uninsured without the federal government setting up shop as a big health insurance company or the health care gate keeper.”

Pelosi: Democrats Stand By The IMF

Thursday, June 4th, 2009

By Celia Canon- Talk Radio News Service

Despite the uncertainties that Congressional Republican leaders have on the efficacy of the reform of the International Monetary Fund, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is adamant that “The IMF will have a strong support from the Democrats.”

Pelosi defended the international organization today at her weekly press conference where she also mentioned the success of her recent bipartisan trip to China.

House Minority Leader John Boehner and Senate Minority Whip Eric Cantormay, backed by other House Representatives who fear that Democrats are fusing two very different entities, the IMF and a bill, together, said that “Weighing down this critical legislation with non-defense spending will only drag this process out further and cost it essential Republican support needed for passage.”

Cantor added that “We should not be having this discussion. IMF funding has no business being included in the war supplemental bill,” while adding that the funding may result in helping terror-sponsoring states such as Pakistan.

The debate over funding of the IMF has stemmed from President Barack Obama’s announcement at the April Group of 20 meeting that $100 billion will be granted to the IMF as part of the U.S war-bill which should further the fight against the global economic crisis.

Obama also said that the U.S would support the IMF as it sell 400 tons of gold, whilst Pelosi reminded that “It [the IMF] has been reformed so that it will help the poor. They wanted to sell gold, we said you can, but the proceeds have to go to help the poor.”

Responding to Cantor’s allegations, Pelosi said “I don’t know why anyone would say that the money is going to the hands of terrorists, it’s simply not based on facts and is a scare tactic.”

Pelosi also said “There are two contradictory things: one says that one shouldn’t be on war funding, which is our responsibility to support our troops in the war in Iraq, end the war in Iraq, bring our troops home and fight terrorism where is it a threat to our country, which is in Afghanistan, and we know that we have to do that.” She added that “The IMF, in its reformed state, can be a force for alleviating the despair amongst people in the world. It’s a very important national security initiative.”

“The issue of the IMF, I think, has strong support on the Democrats’ side; not any support we’re hearing on the Republican side,” Pelosi said.

This war-bill, which involves military and diplomacy costs for Iraq and Afghanistan, will skyrocket to over $100 billion.

Americans Want The Truth About Torture

Friday, May 15th, 2009

By Jonathan Bronstein, Talk Radio News Service

Jonathan Bronstein recounts the Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) recent comments during her weekly press conference. Pelosi asserted that the CIA knowingly lied to her and mislead the American people, and she even called for the creation of a Truth Commission in order to illuminate the facts about the CIA’s use of torture.

Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) responded to Pelosi’s allegations by warning her and other Democrats to be careful what they wish for because the commission’s discoveries may directly implicate them in the investigation.

Furthermore, Peter Brookes, an analyst for the Heritage Foundation, criticized the idea of a Truth Commission because he felt that it may hinder the CIA and other agencies from adequately protecting the American people.

But with each passing day the frustration of the American people mounts as they finally want to know what happened during the Bush Administration. (1:58)

Boehner calls Obama’s budget “irresponsible”

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

At a news conference today, House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) says that the Republican alternative to President Obama’s budget will “create jobs by allowing American families and small businesses to keep more of what they earn.” He says that the President’s budget spends too much, taxes too much, and borrows too much from our kids and grandkids. “I just think that this may be the most irresponsible piece of legislation I’ve ever seen in my legislative career,” says Boehner.
