VA Governor Outcome Not Indicative Of Shifting National Trends

Joe Figueroa at the University of Virginia Center for Politics says that the results of today’s Virginia governor race between Republican candidate Bob McDonnell and Democratic candidate Creigh Deeds should be “taken as a reflection of the campaigns the two candidates ran,” not as a sign of national trends. Some Republicans have suggested that a Republican win in the Virginia and New Jersey governor races, as well as the race for a congressional seat in Upstate New York, would be a referendum on President Barack Obama.
