During a press conference Wednesday, Senators Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Tex.), Jon Tester (D-Mont.) and Rep. Mike Ross (D-Ark.) urged fellow lawmakers to file a brief that would inform the Supreme Court of Congressional opinion regarding McDonald v. City of Chicago, a key second amendment case.

“My colleagues and I are authoring this … brief so that the Supreme Court knows members of Congress will, once again, show Congressional intent that gun rights and the right of self-defense are individual rights guaranteed by the Constitution,” said Hutchison.

The petitioners in McDonald v. City of Chicago are attempting to overturn a ban on handguns in Chicago, Illinois.
