U.S. Inaction Toward North Korea Inspired Iran’s Nuclear Ambitions, Says Expert
David Menashri, Director for Iranian Studies at Tel Aviv University, explains how U.S. inaction toward North Korea may have lead to Iran’s nuclear ambitions. As the third country named in Bush’s “axis of evil,” Menashri explains, Iran felt that the best way to defend itself was to develop nuclear technology and stall U.S. military involvement. (0:55)

Of course Iran has nuclear ambitions – it is a signatory to the NPT and therefore has a legal right to develop nuclear energy and enrich uranium. However, to this day nobody has produced one shred of evidence to show that Iran is developing nuclear weapons or diverting nuclear resources to the military.
The USA, Iran’s greatest critic, constantly talks about Iran’s “nuclear weapons program”, yet cannot show that one exists. The USA also constantly talks about the “International Community” being against Iran’s nuclear program, yet the hard facts show that the great majority of member nations of the UN support Iran’s nuclear program. This “International Community” just happens to be the USA and a few of its allies, but in their arrogance, the Americans always think that THEY speak for the rest of the world, even when they only speak for themselves.
The bottom line is that Iran has every legal right, in fact as the NPT states, the “INALIENABLE RIGHT” to develop a nuclear program. Nobody has the right to try and force Iran to abandon this inalienable right and Iran is quite rightly ignoring this illegal coercion to try and force it to do so.
The Americans do not rule the world and they cannot trample on the rights of other nations to pursue legal activity. As for the accusations of Iranian “nuclear weapons”, one only has to think back to the American accusations of Iraq’s mythical WMD that caused the deaths of hundreds of thousands of innocent people. The world has to act to prevent the USA from fomenting another war to satisfy its own hegemonistic ends.
