Jobs, Not Health Care, Should Be Top Priority Says Gingrich
By Mariko Lamb, Talk Radio News Service
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich promoted his American Solutions’ “Jobs Here, Jobs Now, Jobs First” campaign at the National Press Club Wednesday.
The campaign calls for a four-step solution to job creation. The steps include a two year, 50% reduction in the Social Security and Medicare tax for both workers and employers, reduction of the capital gains tax rate to 0%, a lowering of the corporate tax rate to 12.5%, and a permanent abolition of the death tax.
“America does not work if Americans are not working, and getting Americans working should be the number one priority,” Gingrich said. “’Jobs Here, Jobs Now, Jobs First’ ought to replace all the other priorities that the politicians are currently running around chasing,” he said.
“We believe the number one priority of America ought to be job creation, not because we’re trying to hide from a health debate, in fact, we’re eager to have a health debate and its a pity that the President is unwilling to have a bipartisan discussion about how to get to a better approach,” he said.
Gingrich said the current administration has “every priority except jobs.” He said they have passed “a gigantic energy tax which would kill jobs “ and will soon undoubtedly “pass a health bill that has a huge cost which would kill jobs.”
