Hoyer: Republicans Interested In Causing Failure, Not Progress
The notion espoused by congressional Republicans that Democrats have been moving too hastily with the formation of health care reform legislation does not sit well with the House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.).
“Since 1993 we’ve certainly discussed it, and in the last 18 months we’ve been discussing it extensively. There is no rush to judgement,” Hoyer stated during a pen and pad session with reporters Tuesday. “Major health care reform has moved along at a snails pace.”
“There interest is much more in making failure happen than progress for the American people,” Hoyer added.
The Majority Leader also disagreed with how GOP leaders are framing the impact of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, calling their comments “extraordinarily premature and inaccurate”.
“We have lost 200,000 less jobs per month over the last three months than we did during the last three months of the Bush administration. That is not success, but that is progress,” Hoyer said.
