Safety Official Says Metro Still Using Unsafe Cars
Debbie Hersman, a member of the National Transportation Safety Board, said that the 1000-series cars involved in Monday’s fatal metro accident still represent up to one-third of the railway fleet. She said that the NTPS recommended that these cars be retrofitted or phased out in 2006, and said that they do not meet safety standards. (0:45)
