I still have some reservations about the "stimulus" plan, and in fact the whole Keynesian notion of the government obliterating recessions by spending into oblivion. Some reasons spending sprees won't work include the fact that, considering our trade deficit, a whole lot of money will end up leaving our country anyway. In addition, with a huge expansion in the money supply, inflation will ensue, perhaps even stagflation, as we'll likely see a second recession shortly after this current one ends. Thirdly, in order to pay for all of this, taxes and interest rates will inevitably go up, and businesses will take their operations outside of the U.S. and consumers will be averse to spending.

Some like to point to FDR's spending programs in the '30s as proof that Obama's plan will be successful. Unfortunately, what they don't realize is that, yes unemployment was 25% or so, but when World War II broke out, all of those unemployed males suddenly found employment in the military, while women and others moved into heavy industry to fill the void and support the war effort.

Not to mention that government debt was largly owned by American citizens, unlike today where China is financing our government.
