Steny Hoyer (D-Md): Denying D.C. a vote denies democracy

A weekly news briefing was held today by the House Majority Leader Steny Hover (D-
Md). Hoyer discussed the District of Colombia Voting Bill and referred to the consequence of not passing it would be denying democracy. He stated that all citizens in the U.S. has a right to not only vote, but also to be represented.

He also discussed the Housing Bill and the importance of stabilizing the housing market to allow people to be able to get loans again. Hoyer announced that Thursday will be a target date for the legislation Bill.

Hoyer commented on Congresswoman Ellen Tauscher’s (D-Calif) proposed legislation regarding gays in the military, the Military Readiness Enhancement Act (MREA). Hoyer said that Tauscher brings up one of many important issues in the Department of Defense area. He also explained that he has not familiarized himself with it, as of now. He concluded that it is a proposal that merits further review.
