The House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer held a weekly press conference giving optimistic remarks on the new budget focus on health care, education and U.S. energy independence. He specially emphasized the importance of investing in energy development.

Hoyer briefly discussed the D.C. vote and said that a lot of work has been done and that progress is being made. He did not want to define progress, but stated that he was very hopeful about the bill’s future.

Hoyer also stated that the outcome of AIG was positive because of the executives willingness to pay back their bonuses. He said that it was shameless and irresponsible of companies and executives to pay and accept large bonuses, when the taxpayers suffer. He also stated that no company in America could have missed the anger of the American taxpayers and that a return of the payments is the right thing to do.
