Michelle Montas discusses UN plan to address violence in Middle East
The Security Council will meet this afternoon at 5pm to discuss the situation in the Middle East. Members from the Arab foreign ministries met with the Secretary-General yesterday to discuss a plan of action. The international community has expressed strong concern about the growing violence and attacks on civilians in Gaza. The Secretary-General is planning to visit the Middle East region–tentative dates for the visit are being planned for January 13-20th 2009.
In Somalia, health workers are being killed at a growing rate by armed gunmen. Some of the murdered were assisting school children with feeding programs through the World Food Program (WFP). The WFP assists more than one million Somalians with food aid. In the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the Lord’s Resistance Army is looting homes and towns and killing hundreds. UNHCR is gravely concerned. Houses have been set ablaze and the conflict is brewing.
The escalating crisis situation for the internally displaced continues to plague the Central Horn of Africa with millions in shelters and aid facilities.
In Indonesia, a joint rapid assessment was conducted by UN partners due to the earthquake on January 4. More than 14,000 have been displaced from their homes.

They have got to address it faster…like yesterday…Obama won’t even say he cares about the poor Gazans….how many more will be dead tomorrow and the day after that?????????????
Bush, co. are war criminals like the Israeli’s and they want the shelling to go on and on…just like Lebanon…so the phosphorus can burn more and the cluster bombs can be planted to cripple and kill the survivors. There is a plan that Bush and Israel are following and we cannot allow them to continue to get away with murder and more murder! If we don’t act, we will all burn, and we will all deserve it.
