More talk on energy in the Senate
With the possibility of a vote on energy legislation in both chambers of Congress, the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources gathered for a bipartisan energy summit to call upon Congress to go forward on the issue of creating new sustainable, affordable energy sources and resolving the energy future of America.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) opened the summit by addressing Americans dependency on foreign services to meet today’s consumption of natural resources. “We need to decrease our consumption of fossil fuels,” Reid said.
Reid also points out the urgent need for a bipartisan cooperation on this matter, encouraging Democrats and Republicans to work together, due to a new energy legislation which will be moving to the floor next week.
Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) started off by calling the energy solutions, the number one issue in America now, agreeing with Reid saying we need to use less energy and find more “American” energy. “We need to be realistic and recognize that in near term we will still need more oil and gas,” McConnell said. According to McConnell, further development of oil and gas resources is crucial to solve the energy challenges
