Masdar City: Global warming has finally met its match

Staff

At a Select Committee for Energy Independence and Global Warming hearing, Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, CEO of Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (ADFEC), discussed the future of environmentally sustainable communities by highlighting the developments of Masdar City. (5:10)

Masdar City will be the first zero-carbon city, Al Jaber said. 50,000 people will live in the city. The Abu Dhabi government has invested $15 billion in new technology, such as: solar power, renewable energy infrastructure projects, and a research institute. Masdar City will only require 200 megawatts to power whereas a conventional city of the same size requires 800.
