Similar Rights to Jewish Refugees

Congressmen Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) held a conference call with fellow congressmen Joseph Crowley (D-NY) and Mike Ferguson (R-NJ) about the passing of HR-185. The resolution urges the Congress to recognize the Jewish refugee situation in the Middle East. Speakers from different Jewish organizations took also part in the conference and talked about the importance of recognizing the “unjust” situation in the Middle East.
According to the all speakers, the regular sympathy towards the Palestinians should be changed and people should be educated about the Jews as well.

Coalition: U.S. military should not depend on EU companies

McCain’s emphasis on competition led to selection of the “wrong aircraft”

Frank Gaffney of the Center for Security Policy, who was also a Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense under Reagan, says that a letter sent from John McCain to Robert Gates may have played a role in the selection of one defense contractor over another for a refueling tanker contract. (0:29)

Conservative coalition calls for oversight of tanker contract

At a press conference at the National Press Club coalition of conservative think tanks expressed their concern over the Air Force’s award of the aerial tanker refueling plane contract to the European Aeronautic Defense, and Space consortium. Participants were Frank Gaffney of the Center for Security Policy, who was also a Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense under Reagan. George Landrith of Frontiers of Freedom and Colin Hanna of Let Freedom Ring, Jim Martin the National Defense Council Foundation and 60 Plus. (more…)

“Let’s Legislate the Way We Used to Around Here”

Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid (D-NV), Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Chairman, Chris Dodd, and Jared Bernstein of the Economic Policy Institute held a press conference today discussing the housing issue that has been the most discussed issue the past couple of weeks.

All three urged the White House and the Republicans to stop postponing the resolution of the conflict and act now. As each day passes the problem is becoming bigger. Senator Reid also mentioned that the White House should know what is to be done now and not in the future.

More regulation cannot stop market cycles, but can help, says Treasury Secretary

Treasury Secretary Paulson says that more regulation is not the answer and cannot prevent market “disruptions,” but he suggests a more flexible approach will allow better protection of consumers and investors, and allow U.S. markets to continue to be competitive. (0:37)

The Secretary of HUD Steps Down

Alphonso Jackson, Secretary of U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, held a press conference this morning announcing his withdrawal from the office. Due to “personal and family matters”, April 18 will be the Secretary’s last day in office. In his statement, Secretary Jackson mentioned his achievements during the seven years in office and expressed his gratuity to the President for giving him the chance to “make America a better place to live.” Directly after the Conference, the Secretary left the room without responding to any questions.
