ACLU says that Senator Reid has put the burden on Senators who oppose immunity for telecom companies that participated in warrantless wiretapping

Caroline Fredrickson, Director of the ACLU Washington Legislative Office, says that Senator Reid, by choosing the bring the Intelligence Committee bill to the floor instead of the Judiciary Committee bill, has placed the burden on Senators who oppose immunity for telecommunications companies who participated in President Bush’s warrantless wiretapping program. The ACLU is urging Senator Reid to bring the Judiciary Committee bill to the floor so that the sponsors of the that bill would not have to bring their bill as an amendment to the Intelligence Committee bill, requiring 60 votes to pass.
