Karen P. Tandy, Administrator of the Drug Enforcement Administration, says that currently the number of Americans abusing controlled substances has risen to 6.4 million and that 85% of drugs smuggled into the U.S. come in through our southwest border at the Senate Appropriations Committee hearing on the FY2008 budget for the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and the U.S. Marshal Service.
