Rep. Jim Ramstad (R-MN) relates his personal experiences at the House Ways and Means Sub-committee hearing on Mental Health and Substance Abuse Parity, 3-27-07.
Rep. Ramstad describes waking up in a jail cell in 1981 due to alcohol abuse, and that he is living proof that alcoholism is treatable. He goes on to say that it is estimated that 8 million people in health plans cannot receive treatment because of discrimination, though their plans propose to cover mental health or addiction disorders.
