Paul Krugman, Professor of Economics & International Affairs at Princeton University and Columnist for The New York Times, believes that equal society is an undemocratic one.
During his keynote speech at the Work That Works: An Agenda for Shared Prosperity Forum, Krugman explains that that when conservatives say that they want to look at the equality of opportunity and not at the inequality of the outcome they are making a mistake because the inequality of the outcome/distribution leads to inequality of opportunity.
