Lt. Gen. Martin Dempsey, multi-national Security Transition Command Iraq, cautions reporters on hopes of Iraqi independence.

He says while the Iraqi forces have made much progress while in a state of war, independence will depend on the Iraqi government’s ability to bring national reconciliation, which will potentially reduce the level of violence. (0:34)
