Victoria Jones asks White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan if the plan to give Americans $100 checks to help with the oil hardship might also intend to buy them off.
McClellan says that the President is concerned with the oil crisis and its affects on American families. He says the raising prices are like a tax on families, and that is why the President has outlined short-term solutions.
However, McClellan also says that the real issue is America’s dependence on foreign oil, and the President has outlined long-term goals to remedy this dependence (1:11).
