Reporters started off the morning with a question related to the Pentagon knowledge of the NSA wiretapping program. Recent story by USA Today states that the NSA has been secretly collecting phone call records of tens of millions of Americans with the cooperation of three major phone companies: AT&T, Verizon, and BellSouth. Whitman, in a two fold non-answer, responds that he has no knowledge of the program, including DOD participation, if any, nor would he comment on a highly classified program should he have knowledge. He reiterates that he has no knowledge pertaining to the domestic spying program.

The Secretary is expected to testify on Capitol Hill next Wednesday on the Defense Budget for fiscal year 2007 (FY 07), and may engage in a discussion on the Supplemental Appropriations Budget for this year.
