At the Democrat news conference on energy independence this morning, Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) says that three dollars a gallon is a metaphor for incompetence.
Schumer says the Bush administration and the Republican Congress have seen the energy crisis coming, but they have "fiddled" while prices go up and catered to the oil companies rather than the consumers (1:00).
