Rep. Curt Weldon (R-PA), during a joint House subcommittee hearing on the Department of Defense’s Able Danger program, asserts that the department is trying to malign Lt. Col. Anthony Shaffer’s name.
Weldon gives examples of ways in which the Department of Defense is trying to discredit Shaffer. Shaffer contends that information gathered by Able Danger prior to September 11, 2001 could have been used to stop the attacks. He says that the department is trying to discredit him in order to avoid embarrassment over their own missteps related to the September 11 attacks. (1:24)
