Fitzgerald points out that the charges brought against Libby are serious threats to national security, and if found guilty of these crimes, Libby faces 50 years in prison. Fitzgerald says that the notion that an operative’s identity can be compromised will further not only threaten the lives of operatives in the field, it also compromises the CIA’s ability to recruit.
