The Food and Drug Administration should be able to levy fines for illegal ads, Dr. Sidney Wolfe says at a National Academies seminar.
Currently, the FDA has no authority to issue fines to drug companies for broadcasting illegal ads. Wolfe says that this policy should change to encourage more accurate advertising. He also recommended more authority for the FDA and a policy that would force drug companies to submit ads to the FDA for approval. (:34)
