Sidney Wolfe, a doctor at Health Research Group, explains at a National Academies seminar that the Food and Drug Administration has eased regulation of direct-to-consumer prescription advertisements.
Wolfe says since 1997, after revising regulatory procedures for drug ads, the FDA cited fewer violations by drug companies despite an increase in prescription advertising. Wolfe reasons that since the quality of the ads has not changed since then, there should also have been a rise in number of citations. (:49)
