Biologist Dr. Mike Fay discusses the importance of sustainable development in Africa during a news conference.

Fay, who recently spent seven months photographing parts of the African continent, says sustainable development would have more long-term success in Africa than "poverty alleviation." He contends that poverty alleviation efforts exploit natural resources while bringing about only short-term gains for the people involved. (:57)
