At a news conference to release the results of a major report titled, "Getting Smarter, Becoming Fairer: A Progressive Education Agenda for a Stronger Nation," Phillip D. Murphy, senior director of The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc., explains the first of four recommendations his public education taskforce suggests the education system needs to enact in order to revitalize public education
Murphy says that schools need to increase the amount of time children spend in school. He argues that the traditional K-12 academic calendar needs to be changed, children need to begin school earlier, and students need to have an opportunity to continue their studies longer by attending college.
