President’s Schedule
The President this morning received his usual intelligence briefings. This afternoon, he will welcome Republican lawmakers to the White House, plus congressional representatives from the International Relations Committee and senators from the Foreign Relations Committee to discuss the recent White House trip overseas. The President may sign the $82 billion emergency war spending bill passed yesterday by the Senate into law.
North Korea
Press Secretary McClellan called on North Korea to return to the Six-Party Talks. "The Korean Peninsula needs to be a nuclear free zone and North Korea must end its ambition to acquire or produce nuclear weapons," McClellan continued. President Bush discussed this issue with President Hu of China while in Moscow.
Filibuster
Press Secretary McClellan stated that the Senate Leadership will determine whether or not to proceed with the "nuclear" option to bar filibusters against judicial nominees. "The President has always worked to elevate the [political] discourse in Washington," McClellan stated. "The Senate Democrats," he continued, "have gone to unprecedented levels to prevent an up or down vote on judicial nominees."
Grenade in Georgia
The Secret Service and FBI are looking into how an inactive grenade was found near the site where President Bush delivered a speech yesterday in Georgia. The Secret Service informed the President upon his return to Washington aboard Air Force One. "The President’s life was never in danger," McClellan continued.
