National Security Advisor Stephen Hadley outlines the purpose of President Bush’s upcoming trip to Europe at a press briefing on Wednesday.

Hadley states that the purpose of the trip, on the anniversary of the end of World War Two, is to honor the commitment of many to defeat tyranny and spread democracy. The trip will also underscore the common commitment of Europe and the US to work to advance freedom, prosperity and tolerance across the globe. The President will reaffirm the strong alliance between the US and the Baltic States which is based on commonly shared values. He also stated that the President plans to lay out a broader definition of democracy that includes an open government and respect for minorities in addition to free elections. (1:43)
